Beginning Your Research

The DAR Genealogical Research System (GRS) on the DAR website is an outstanding resource and is the best place to begin. The GRS is a combination of several extensive genealogical databases and contains names of Revolutionary War patriots, both men and women, whose service (between 1775 and 1783) has been established by the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. Additional information available may include:
• Dates and places of birth and death;
• Name(s) of wife (wives) or husband(s) and children;
• Rank;
• Type of service;
• State where the patriot lived or served.

You can also order and download from the GRS a copy of any application and its supporting documentation that you believe will help your own research and application.

Please remember not every Revolutionary War patriot is included in the GRS, but only those who are proven ancestors of DAR members. If you do not find your patriot on the list do not be discouraged. Contact our chapter regent, Kathleen J. Evans, who will arrange for our chapter registrar to guide and assist you in researching patriot ancestors.
